Lim Beng Cheng has been actively committed to R&D on computer security since 1983 when he joined the civil service. He headed a technical research team which studies into software and hardware security. The research spanned from operating systems, application programs to security software and in many platforms from PCs to LAN and mainframes. His exploration into NetWare security started in 1984 when it was running on an IBM 8088 XT computer. He had written numerous software to enhance LAN and PC security. He also played a vital role in formulating computer security policies and guidelines.
In 1993, he founded the company Hiwire Computer & Security Pte Ltd which provides computer security consultancy services. He has continued the research into the security of NetWare and NT server operating systems. He has developed FrontLine, an anti-virus software which has been favourably reviewed by Virus Bulletin, a leading anti-virus magazine distributed worldwide. He has written several laboratory viruses which are sophisticated and each of them can exploit the weaknesses of anti-virus software and evade detection.
Thousands had benefited from the numerous seminars on NetWare 3.x/4.x security, Windows NT server security, computer virus, PC/LAN and security which he has conducted locally and overseas.
Beng Cheng received his degree in Computer Science from the National University of Singapore.
